Following our 12 days in the mountains of Svaneti, we hired a driver to take us to the town of Kazbegi for 9 nights. Along the way, our driver stopped at several landmarks for us to visit. We based ourselves in a nice guesthouse with a spectacular view of the Gergeti Trinity Church and Mount Kazbeck. When the weather cooperated, we spent many mornings on our guesthouse balcony having coffee and afternoons having a glass of local wine and looking at the view.
The town itself is not very exciting, but the views from town and the many nearby hiking trails are what make it a very popular destination for both national and international tourists. Despite the area being very busy, it is still very worth a visit. Due to several very rainy days, we missed out on a few popular hikes. But, the ones we did hike were all fabulous, especially the hike to the Gergeti Glacier – Amazing!!!
