Our Italian cycle route took us from Ventimiglia, Italy (located on the France-Italy border) to the seaport city of Civitavecchia (located 25 miles from Rome). Our route was on the Ligurian and Tuscan coasts and included a 610 meter pass (leading us into Cinque Terre) and an inland detour through the town of Pisa. Once in Civitavecchia, we broke down the bikes and took a train to Torino. Torino has been compared to Florence, but without all the tourists.
