After spending the month of April in the Puglia Region of Italy, it was time to head to our next destination, the island of Sicily. We opted for an all day train which took us from mainland Italy all the way to the island. This particular train actually boards it’s own ferry to cross to the island. So, you never have to disembark the original train until you’ve reached your destination in Sicily. This was a great option as it made for a super easy and relaxing very long travel day. We disembarked the train in Catania, our first destination in Sicily. We spent the entire month of May exploring.
Arriving in early May, the weather for this time of year is typically warm and sunny, but, unfortunately, the unseasonable, cold and wet weather continued until mid May. While we saw a definite increase in both European and foreign travelers, with a little patience, we could still enjoy the cities and sites along the way. All in all, Sicily is slightly more rough around the edges, but was still a wonderful and beautiful area. It is certainly a place we would like to return to in the future.
