After spending 9 days in Kazbegi, we hired a driver to take us to Zhinvali (2+ hours driving). Once in Zhinvali, we met our hired driver and guide for a 4 day and 3 night backcountry adventure in the Kkevsureti Region. This region is truly backcountry and requires a 4 wheel drive vehicle and an experienced driver (rental car companies do not allow any rental cars to be taken in the area). Mindia, our driver and guide, was fantastic. He knew everything about the area and was a great driver on many very sketchy stretches of road. Some parts of the road were very narrow due to road washouts while other parts were very steep with a sheer drop-offs on the edges. Mindia (and his wife Tamara), were fabulous and truly gave us a once in a lifetime experience. The Khevsureti scenery was amazing from the centuries old towers steeped in history to the gorgeous mountain views all around. What a way to end our time in the Republic of Georgia!!!
